Ingredients

  • 1 cup Smarties candy (about 2 boxes)
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Extra Smarties for garnish
  • Rainbow sprinkles for rim (optional)

Method

  1. If decorating the rim, dip the rim of two glasses in a thin layer of honey or corn syrup, then press into rainbow sprinkles.
  2. Reserve about 1/4 cup of Smarties for topping.
  3. Add the remaining Smarties, vanilla ice cream, milk, and vanilla extract to a blender.
  4. Pulse 5-6 times on low, then blend for 10 seconds. You want the Smarties partially crushed — some chunks, some melted into the shake for color.
  5. Pour into the prepared glasses.
  6. Top with a generous swirl of whipped cream.
  7. Scatter the reserved Smarties over the whipped cream so they nestle into the top.
  8. Add a colorful straw and serve immediately.

Notes

Don't over-blend or the colors will muddy together into brown. Quick pulses keep the Smarties chunky and the colors vibrant. Use the brightest, most colorful Smarties you can find. For a birthday party version, add a scoop of birthday cake ice cream instead of vanilla. This milkshake photographs beautifully — get your camera ready before you blend!
