Cotton Candy Unicorn Milkshake

This milkshake is pure fantasy in a glass. It’s pink, it’s blue, it’s topped with a cloud of cotton candy, and it tastes like a carnival dream. If you’re looking for a milkshake that makes people stop scrolling and say “I need that,” this is it.

The secret is cotton candy flavoring or actual cotton candy dissolved right into the shake. It gives it this unique, sweet, almost magical flavor that you can’t quite put your finger on — it’s not quite vanilla, not quite bubblegum, just pure sugary happiness. The pastel swirl of pink and blue makes it look like something a unicorn would order, and the cotton candy cloud on top dissolves into the whipped cream as you drink. Kids absolutely lose their minds over this one, but let’s be honest — so do the adults.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring (or 1 cup cotton candy dissolved in milk)
  • Pink food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream
  • Cotton candy for topping (pink and blue)
  • Edible glitter or star sprinkles (optional)
  • Rainbow sprinkles

Method

  1. Add the vanilla ice cream, milk, and cotton candy flavoring to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Divide the blended shake evenly into two bowls or measuring cups.
  3. Add 2-3 drops of pink food coloring to one portion and stir. Add 2-3 drops of blue food coloring to the other and stir.
  4. In each glass, alternate pouring a little pink, then a little blue, creating a swirled layered effect.
  5. Use a skewer or chopstick to gently swirl the colors together for a marble pattern.
  6. Top with whipped cream.
  7. Place a generous puff of pink and blue cotton candy on top of the whipped cream.
  8. Add rainbow sprinkles and edible glitter if using.
  9. Serve immediately — the cotton candy melts into the shake if you wait too long!

Notes

The cotton candy on top starts melting immediately, so have your camera ready before you add it. Cotton candy flavoring (also called cotton candy extract) is available online and at baking supply stores — a little goes a long way. If you can't find it, dissolve a big handful of cotton candy into the warm milk before blending for a similar flavor. Pastel food coloring gives a more magical look than bright neon.
